Kena Hit-and-run at PIE

Postby sohck on Sat Nov 07, 2009 9:44 pm

Today then *sway*.

Just turned into PIE from CTE. A lorry coming from the right was trying to cut into my lane to go to KPE. The driver didn't bother to check so just banged into the rear right of my Airwave. I wind down the window to signal him to stop by the road side, but he just drove off.

Later I called NTUC and was instructed to make a police report. Tomorrow or Monday got to stop by IDAC to report the accident.

Bros any advice for me? I should be able to claim the insurance of the lorry for my repair, right?

Yes, took down his vehicle number and made police report already. I had two young kids in my car so when the driver turned into KPE I was at the slip road to Kallang very difficult to chase after him.

So you mean the insurance will cut my NCD ah? Then maybe should pay myself to repair. Only a slight dent and some scratches so I think damage is only $200 plus minus.

sohck,

dunno about how since police involved, but anyways, if repairs is less than $500... normally if failed to claim other party, then first $500 is also come from your pocket, so NCD should not be affected.

You should be contacted by your NTUC case officer. He will advise you.
By now if still notthing, call NTUC line and ask to talk to your case officer in charge.
Eventually its either:
- successfully claim the lorry
- or claim fail then you offer to pay your costs... NCD will not affected...

NCD won't affect... unless u lose the case. then NCD gone. but in this case, i think confirm, sure win. so don't worry... :D

Went to IDAC this morning to report the accident. The officer there told me it is difficult for me to win the case because there is no eye witness (those inside my cars cannot be eye witness). She said my damage not big workshop may not want to do the claim for me. Moreover, she told me that in case I don't win, I need to pay for the legal fee (incurred by the car workshop) in addition to the damage itself.

Don't know real or not real? Anybody here can confirm? Now not sure whether I should do the claim or not because I estimate the repair to be around $200+/- (did a couple of repair at Gary before so roughly know how much it will cost)

Yo bro, she is right. Your case very difficult to win, unless got witness (other than your passenger). Even if u got witness, they must be able to testify they have seen the WHOLE incident, not the result of the accident. This part very difficult! To explain this, i tell u tis scenario,
"U driving along a straight road, one stupid car made an illegal U-turn at a X-juction. The traffic light is at ur advantage, but by the time u notice his car, u collide with him liao! Both of u stop to access damage, not so jialat, so move abit further so as not to obstruct traffic."
Now, i want u to assume tis, wat if the other party say that u knock him while he is making a right turn (now it is legal liao), he say u drive very fast ! But, heng arh, accident happen in front of a kopitiam, sure got witness. rite? Wrong ! Normally wat they saw is the result of the collision, both car stopped liao, maybe got arguement, maybe both shaking hands, etc; they did not see the WHOLE event! So, their statemet also half fight nia!
Anyway, at least u report to police liao, its okie tat whether they do or dun do anything. If u feel that the damage is manageable by urself, then LL go fix it urself lor. Take it as "broken wealth, solve disaster", who knows , after this u kena 4D or TOTO ! hahahahaa.

bro! i noe at that time u have family in the car. but u need to catch him if u wan compensation. but since u didnt get him n the repair is ard $200, jus do n pay n take it as a lesson. look on the bright side. at least ur family members in the car r safe n sound. like wat achilles said. go buy 4d. good luck.

ye, from my previous acc xperience, i spoke to the IDAC ppl, insurance ppl and the workshop, i got a couple of important lesson tat must share, oops, quite difficult to write the situation, but i try, okie?
1) when no choice, knock the other party car, instead of lamp post, traffic light post, railing or any other building.
2) when making u-turn, whether legal or illegal, the straight on coming car got more advantage than the one making u-turn. Insurance claim guidelines state that the straight road car got 100% right . Tats y now, when make u-turn, super careful liao...hahaha

not too sure if i make sense here

u can pay for the damage urself and take it as a blessing that no one is hurt.

however, u can still pursue the case of hit and run since you have the car plate no, not for the purpose of claiming insurance but rather to seek injustice. of cuz, very hard to hit him on the nail since no witness here

but who knows, if surface evidence is substantial enuf, u can even claim compensation of how much you have paid for your repairs.
no harm keeping this option open and follow up with the police since u have already done up ur own repair

take care

Good idea leh.

According to the police, my case has been forwarded to the traffic police and I have also faxed a copy of my insurance certificate there. Will find out how to follow up from there.
